Inanna is the goddess of *the love that requires you to descend* — the partnership that is not surface, that requires you to bring your underworld-self into contact with another's underworld-self. She is also the goddess of the *erotic descent* — pleasure as a sacred path into the body's underworld, never as performance. Reversed: Dumuzi-betrayal — sacrificing the partner to save yourself when the descent demands a substitute. The myth itself names this risk; Inanna's choice of Dumuzi as substitute is the most disputed passage in her literature.
