Vine

Vitis vinifera

Over-care for welfare of others · the 5 grip-remedies · 36 of 38

For the domineering — the strong personality whose authority has become tyranny. Bach's remedy for the soul that rules others.

What Vine actually treats

Vine is Bach's remedy for the dominator. The natural leader whose leadership has become inflexible authority. The CEO who cannot delegate. The patriarch whose word is law. The friend who knows what is best for everyone. Bach saw Vine types as genuinely strong, capable, often visionary — and as having lost the capacity for true collaboration. The remedy preserves the strength while restoring respect for others' autonomy. Authority returns to its proper function: serving the group rather than overriding it.

The state it meets

Dominating. Inflexible. Demands obedience. Knows what is best for everyone. Cannot collaborate as equal. Authority has become tyranny. Strong but not listening.

The shift it brings

Authority that serves. Strength that includes deference. The recognition that the best leaders make others stronger, not smaller. Collaboration becomes possible because hierarchy stops being defended.

In love

Vine in love is the partner who has become a parent to the other, deciding for them, overriding their preferences "for their own good." The work is to consult before deciding, even on small things — and to discover that the other has their own wisdom.

In work

Vine in work is the founder who cannot delegate, the leader whose meetings are monologues. The remedy supports the move from "I will decide" to "I will listen first" — without losing the capacity to decide when listening is complete.

A 5-minute practice

For one week, in every meeting or conversation, ask "what do you think?" before sharing your view. Then actually wait for the answer. Then let the answer move you. Notice what changes in the quality of the decisions made.

3 key questions

  1. Where am I currently overriding others when consultation would have been wiser — and what is the fear behind needing to dominate?
  2. When I have collaborated as equal recently, what was the outcome — and does it match my belief that I "must" decide alone?
  3. Who in my life has wisdom I have been ignoring because I have decided I know better — and what would change if I let them lead one decision?
