Wild Oat

For uncertainty about life direction — the talented person who cannot find their path. Bach's remedy for the dissatisfied wanderer.
What Wild Oat actually treats
Wild Oat is Bach's remedy for the deep uncertainty about life direction. Not a single decision (Scleranthus) — the whole arc. The Wild Oat person is often capable, talented, multi-skilled — and chronically dissatisfied because no path has felt like THE path. They try careers, relationships, locations, philosophies. Each is "fine, but not quite it." Bach saw the remedy as the clarifier — not the giver of direction, but the dissolver of the static that prevents the inner direction from being heard.
The state it meets
Chronic dissatisfaction with chosen path despite no specific problem. Multi-talented but unable to commit. "Is this really what I am meant to do?" Job-hops, relationship-hops, place-hops. The grass is always greener.
The shift it brings
Inner clarity about direction. The recognition of what you are actually for — and the willingness to commit to it long enough to develop mastery. The end of the search-state.
In love
Wild Oat in love is the partner who is never quite sure if this is "the one" — not because of any specific concern, but because of a chronic restlessness with whatever is here. The work is to let "good enough" be the foundation depth is built on.
In work
Wild Oat in work is the talented generalist who has not yet committed to a specialty long enough to become exceptional at it. The remedy supports the choice to go deep in ONE thing for a defined period — and see what emerges.
A 5-minute practice
Pick one path. Commit to it for 90 days with NO option to reconsider during that window. Notice what depth feels like when shallow exploration is taken off the table. Many Wild Oat states resolve in the 90-day depth, not in the next path-change.

3 key questions
- What path have I quietly known for a long time was mine — and have I been disqualifying it because it felt too obvious, too small, too unglamorous?
- If I committed to one direction for the next 90 days with no escape clause, which one would my body relax into — even if my mind protested?
- What is the cost of the search-state itself, separate from any path I might choose — and have I been counting it?
