The Nakshatra

Krittika (कृत्तिका, 'the cutters') is the third nakshatra, straddling sidereal Aries 26°40' and Taurus 10°00', ruled by the Sun and presided over by Agni — the fire-god named more times than any other in the Rig Veda, the messenger between mortal and divine. The symbol is the *razor* and the *flame*. The Krittikas in Vedic myth are the six sister-stars (the Pleiades, the visible cluster in Taurus) who became foster-mothers to Skanda, the warrior-son of Shiva — Krittika people often have this *foster-mother* quality, fierce and protective for those not biologically their own. Classical jyotish names Krittika natives sharp, direct, intolerant of falseness, with a natural gift for cutting through to the truth of a situation. The fire is purifying, not destructive — Krittika is the heat that *separates* gold from the slag. The shadow is when the cutting becomes critical, the discernment becomes contempt, the purifying fire turns on the person rather than on the falseness.

When the Moon transits Krittika

The Moon transits Krittika once a sidereal month — a window for *purification*: ending what is false, cutting what is unnecessary, confronting what has been avoided. Krittika moon is good for the difficult conversation, the resignation letter, the renunciation. Bad for negotiation or compromise — the energy is razor, not silk.

In love

Krittika partner is the one who will tell you the truth you have been avoiding — and stay. Honest, fierce, intolerant of pretense. Reversed: the razor turned on the beloved — criticism mistaken for honesty, contempt mistaken for clarity.

In work

Work that requires *cutting through* — editors, surgeons, auditors, prosecutors, military strategists, teachers who refuse to coddle, founders who can cull a product line without sentiment. Krittika is wasted on diplomacy; give it the work that needs the blade.

The gift

*Purifying discernment.* The capacity to see what is false and cut it cleanly — not from contempt but from devotion to the truth on the other side of the cut.

The shadow

Contempt mistaken for clarity. Krittika unbalanced uses the razor on people rather than on the falseness — the cutting word, the dismissal, the burning down of a relationship because a single thread was rotten. The Agni-fire teaches: burn the chaff, keep the grain.
