Anuradha (अनुराधा, 'following Radha' / 'success of devotion') is the seventeenth nakshatra, sidereal Scorpio 3°20'–16°40', ruled by Saturn and presided over by Mitra — the Vedic god of *friendship, of the binding oath, of the shared dawn*. Mitra is the day-deity twin of Varuna (the night), and the deity *Mitra* (friendship) gives us the Sanskrit and Persian *mithra* and the word *meet*. The symbol is the *lotus* (devotion that grows up through dark water), or alternatively the *triumphal arch built by the friends after the campaign*. Anuradha is the nakshatra of *devoted friendship* — the bond that survives geographic distance, the oath that crosses decades, the deep partnership that does not need to perform.
