The Hexagram
Hexagram 7, *Shī*, is the image of water hidden in the earth — concealed force, disciplined and ready, but not yet expressed. The classical translation is *the Army*. The hexagram's counsel is *the army needs perseverance and a strong man — good fortune without blame*. The lesson is precise: power is righteous only when it is disciplined, when there is a cause that justifies it, and when there is a leader (literal or internal) capable of restraint. The hexagram does *not* counsel pacifism — there are times power must be marshalled — but it counsels the disciplined kind, the kind that knows why it is rising and what it is for.
